AKA AKA ROAR! PRESENT GRAPHICS, LORCA + MORE //

On SATURDAY 10TH SEPTEMBER, the team at AKA AKA ROAR will be running a takeover at The Tube, continuing their mission to showcase some of the best emerging talent the UK has to offer. Young and breakthrough DJ’s from Brighton and the surrounding area will give us a taste of their talent, what they’re all about, and where the future of music is headed…

As well as DJing, production is also on the line for these guys, with a good handful of releases available as vinyl 12″ and digital mp3.

Our headliner tonight will be GRAPHICS, based in Oxford and London and with material recently out on the Brighton-based Well Rounded Records imprint. His style is evocative and thoughtful, striking a balance between emotions and presenting a  bittersweet middle ground that we can all relate to. Check out his latest output “OK Rainbow / Adjectival E”, below, and get to know.

Next up is LORCA. Described as a “2-step tinged electronica producer”, he is well on his way, already making waves in the scene and earning a pretty big name for himself. Having acquired the attention and support of Resident Advisor and gigging around Brighton, London and festivals further afield (such as Big Chill) Lorca a.k.a Sam Cassman is definitely one to watch.
His profile on RA probably says it best… “Pulsing between atmospheric swells, voluminous vocals and a discerning 2-step framework, we find London-born Brighton-bred newcomer Sam Cassman aka Lorca with absolutely zero contrivance and a surplus of potential. His simultaneously soothing and surging EP contains ‘Moments’, which should be prescribed on the NHS in place of prozac, and ‘Hold Back’ on Left Blank which is a more sombre affair – rattling and echoing away, flanked by a church-like organ.”
See for yourself the mood-lifting and blissful warmth of “Moments”, below.

Rounding up the bill will be more vibes from ACTION JACKSON, HARBINGER and ROKEM. Expect an eclectic mix of house, bass and club music styles, and come down to make some discoveries whilst supporting your city and your music. Ego-free, fresh and all about the music, this will be crisp, energized and skilled.

Entry is just £2 before 12 and £3 thereafter – but get down early for 2-4-1 cocktails before midnight!

THE TUBE PRESENTS: PARADIS LAUNCH //

Coming up next weekend, on SATURDAY 3RD SEPTEMBER, we kick off a new month and a new season with the launch of new night PARADIS.

Like dancing? Good, so do we.

So, to tell you how they got here and fill you in on a bit of background info, here’s a little bit about the people being Paradis…
First of all they put on a night called THE DO, where, in all honestly, they didn’t really know what they were doing (as first timers). There were bands and a whole crazy collection of … stuff … but, lo, it was good.
Then they created 13 MONSTERS, where good times with the smoke machine were had by all and everything was great until the introduction of the limiter and the venue was shut down. Blunt, but alas, such is life.
So, after moving around a number of different clubs and just doing whatever the hell they wanted really, the team are back and this time they’re at THE TUBE with PARADIS! Brighton beach may not look quite like the tropical paradise below, but it’s gonna get pretty gorgeous down at the seafront.

We like their style. Slightly shambolic, and totally free, these guys will play a wicked selection of underground club music that isn’t restrained by the boundaries of genre. Paradis promises to deliver an eclectic sound selection of some of the finest music to shake your shambalas to, playing material from the likes of Hudson Mohawk, Nguzunguzu, Machinedrum, Wheez-ie, Teengirl Fantasy, Gang Gang Dance, Girl Unit, Cabaret Voltaire, Zomby and many many more!

DOORS at 11pm until v. late.

FREE ENTRY before midnight – £5 thereafter, or £4 with an NUS card or if you’ve been clever enough work your way onto the Guestlist.

Check out the Facebook Event Page HERE for more info and to get your names on the wall for aforementioned Guestlist Entry…

It’s gonna be heaven.

Doze:

Next up is SHENODA. Signed to Hypercolour, with forthcoming material set to be released on the label as well as on others such as Fresh Meat and Sonida, the future is set to be big for this guy. With carefully placed vocal samples and fragments of punchy melodies, with 2-Steppy scatty rhythms, he experiments with the Electronic sound, having a refreshingly free approach to making music. Listen below to “Favourite”, a stand-out track from the “Shots” EP – out now on Hypercolour:

THE TUBE PRESENTS: GIRL UNIT //

This is definitely one for the diary… SATURDAY 20TH AUGUST see’s a pretty big night hitting Brighton seafront, with a huge lineup set to rinse THE TUBE and shake us all into a club-fueled madness. Headlining is the London-based NIGHT SLUGS strongman and globally respected DJ/Producer, GIRL UNIT, with fellow Night Slug GREENA, Well Rounded’s DONGA and Jailbait’s NICOLE DE LEIBURNE on the support.

If you managed to miss GIRL UNIT‘s release “Wut” last year, you must have been doing something especially wrong. Such was it’s wide roaming appeal, it could be heard on systems all around the world, even prompting Minimal House legend, Claude Von Stroke, to remix it.
Add that to last year’s similarly world comquering single “IRL” and you have a pretty impressive back catalogue for someone still in their early twenties. Pure spaced out crunk:

He’s also done some flawless mixes for Resident Advisor, Fact Magazine and the like – check out his mix for Numbers, below – chock full of massive tunes and wicked blending…

Fellow member of the Night Slugs crew, 23 year old GREENA, will be making an appearance too. Relatively new on the scene but already causing a stir, Greena certainly knows how to create an atmosphere with his DJing. Check out his mix for XLR8R to see what we mean – unfortunately we can’t stream it, but click HERE to be redirected to their website. This is what they had to say on the matter:
“You can go ahead an add Greena to the list of artists to obsess over. On this exclusive mix, the 23-year-old Londoner and Night Slugs cohort whips together the usual assortment of dubplates and unreleased tunes from scene heavyweights like Untold, Brackles, Bok Bok, and Roska, but he also stretches his musical boundaries further than many of his contemporaries will dare, slotting in vintage techno, ghettotech, upfront house, and even some grime-flavored R&B. It may sound a bit schizophrenic, but Greena weaves his way between genres with ease, resulting in one particularly potent XLR8R podcast.

It’s gonna be a night to remember, full of exciting, heavy, future-fresh and inspiring selections.
Be sure to get down early for FREE ENTRY and 2-4-1 on the cocktails before midnight.

SNEAKER SOCIAL CLUB: THROWING SNOW + MORE //

SATURDAY 6TH AUGUST sees the SNEAKER SOCIAL CLUB hitting up The Tube with a very special launch party of their first label release, SNKR01.

SSC have been away for a while, busily putting together SNKR01, coming in the form of a double A side. It’s due for release very soon – so keep your eyes and ears peeled for further information on that! To celebrate, we’ve got the label’s own THROWING SNOW headlining the night, with support from YOUANDEWAN, CHRIS K and CEDRIC MAISON.

THROWING SNOW is a London-based producer, a newcomer on the UK scene, with a distinct enthusiasm for writing and enjoying a huge array of music. The diverse sounds of his productions cover, literally, all sorts; from Folk and Dubstep to twinkle-toed House. Check out his remix of “Glasser – Mirrorage”, below…

Joining him will be YOUANDEWAN, another very promising young DJ emerging onto the scene .
As stated on online journal MUTED NOISE: “props from Mary Anne Hobbs and Skream only tell half the story when it comes to new jock-on-the-block Youandewan, aka Ewan Smith. Taken aback by his experimental and atmospheric jams, the aforementioned’s eagerness to lend their support only goes to highlight the diversity of fans [he’s] gathered – even with a knackered computer and only a year under his belt…”

So, come down and celebrate with fresh and exciting young talent, plus killer support from CHRIS K and Hypercolour’s chief DJ, CEDRIC MAISON!

As it’s a Saturday night, you should all know the drill by now…
But if it’s passed you by, entry is FREE before midnight and £5 thereafter, plus our beautiful bar staff will be shaking and stirring up a delicious menu of cocktails,  2-4-1 before midnight too.
